How to create Azure Virtual Desktop Scaling Plan

Follow the below steps

  1. Log in to Azure Portal.
  2. Search for Azure Virtual Desktop and click on the search result Azure Virtual Desktop.

3. On the Azure Virtual Desktop page, click on the option of the Scaling plans from the left navigation.

4. Click on the + Create button.

Or, you can also click on the Create scaling plan button for the same purpose.

5. On the Create a scaling plan window, provide the below details.

  • Subscription: Select a valid Azure subscription.
  • Resource group: Select an existing Resource group or you can click on the Create new link to create a new Resource group.
  • Name: Provide a name for the scaling plan.
  • Location: Select the region or location.
  • Friendly name: You can provide a provide a friendly name which is optional.
  • Description: It is optional. You can just provide a description.
  • Time Zone: Select your time zone.
  • Exclusion tag: Again it is optional you can enter an exclusion tag if you wish to enter.

Click on the Next: Schedules > button to navigate to the Schedules tab.

6. On the Schedules tab, click on the + Add schedule button.

On the Add a schedule window, General tab, provide the below details

  • Schedule name: Provide a meaningful name for the Schedule.
  • Repeat On: Select the days when you wish to repeat.

Click on the Next button.

On the Ramp-up tab, provide the details as mentioned below.

  • Start time (24 hour system): Specify the start time.
  • Load balancing algorithm: Choose the Load balancing algorithm as Breadth-first or Depth-first.
  • Minimum percentage of hosts (%): Enter the minimum percentage. The default value is 20.
  • Capacity threshold (%): Mention the percentage for the Capacity threshold. The default value is 60.

Click on the Next button to navigate to the Peak hours tab.

On the Peak hours tab, provide the below details

  • Start time (24 hour system): Provide the start time.
  • Load balancing Algorithm: You can select the option Breadth-first or Depth-first.

Click on the Next button to navigate to the Ramp-down tab.

On the Ramp-down tab, provide the below details

  • Start time (24 hour system): Provide the start time.
  • Load balancing Algorithm: You can select the Load balancing Algorithm option Breadth-first or Depth-first.
  • Minimum percentage of hosts (%): Specify a value for the minimum percentage of hosts option. The default value is 10.
  • Capacity threshold (%): The default value is 90. Specify the capacity threshold value based on your need.
  • Force logoff users: You can select Yes or No based on your requirement.
  • Delay time before logging out users and shutting down VMs (min): Specify the delay time.
  • Notification message: Specify the notification message based on your requirement. You can customized the message as per your convenience.

Click on the Next button to navigate to the Off-peak hours tab.

On the Off-peak hours tab, provide the below details

  • Start time (24 hour system): Specify the start time.
  • Load balancing Algorithm: You can select the option Breadth-first or Depth-first.

Now, you can able to see the Schedule is added on the Schedules tab.

On the Host pool assignments tab, Select the host pool and make sure to select the Enable autoscale option.

Now Keep the other tab value as it is and click on the Review + Create button.

7. Now, the system will validate all the options entered by you and will show you the Validation passed message. Finally, click on the Create button.

It will take a few second Go to resource button to navigate to the Scaling plan that you have created for your Azure Virtual Desktop.
